summertime is in full swing

just a few things that have been on my mind...

  • mountain biking is the elixir of youth. it's the new snowboarding (well, the summertime equivalent, really). it's been SO MUCH fun the past 2 weekends. plus, it's a great way to check out these really beautiful areas that i/we might never see otherwise. i've been having the best weekends lately - it makes my mondays kind of weird, but it gets me through the week!
  • i can't believe salem is this weekend already. i remember planning this back in, like, december. me & molly are spending five days exploring the ghosts of our witchy sisterhood past. i can hardly wait. i hope to come back with lots of stories for the cauldron!
  • i found a great running path in pacifica. "found" isn't exactly right, since i always knew it existed, but i only ran it for the first time the other day. 20 minutes up a steep hill from rockaway, then down to the parking lot at linda mar, and back again. fantastic views, fantastic run!
  • so happy i'm coming home to a clean house today. that's really random, but it's always a nice treat.

summer solstice goodness

what a fantastic solstice i had yesterday. by mid-afternoon, i was done - DONE! - with a huge project at work that had been consuming me (immersing me, indeed) for the past six weeks or so. it went over great, but the best part is that it is DONE! it's a huge weight off my shoulders, so what better way to top off weighlessness than with some early-evening yoga. i was feeling extra-bendy and yet very balanced and peaceful - the perfect yoga combo. handstands on the grass outside made the class complete.

dave & i grilled out, of course, because i think you're required to cook outside on the solstice, particularly if it's as gorgeous out as it was in SF last night. we made tequila-lime chicken, bbq chicken, veggie kabobs, corn, and over sips of sauza and ice-cold fat tires, talked about mexico for hours. we may be heading back to sayulita for three whole weeks over the christmas holidays! but in the meantime, we're heading down to cabo for a short weekend trip next month. i love mexico so much, and i love that we both love it, too.

it's been a pretty slow season for fire gigs - slower than last year at this time, anyway. perhaps the pendulum has swung in the opposite direction, or maybe the market is just too saturated right now. either way, we're still practicing and learning new stuff - just putting it to use in different ways. upcoming, we've got a luau this weekend, and it looks like we may be entertaining with the shine/deep end crew for the best of the bay party next week.

i'm heading out to a work offsite at great america in a little bit - this should be very interesting! i LOVE roller coasters, but i never, ever go to amusement parks, so i'm happy that work has taken care of this for me. also, it's, like, 100 degrees outside, and apparently we have unlimited drinks. nothing like diving right into summer and the joys of working with a bunch of freaky party people!

oh, the heat - it's fantastic!

it is hot hot hot! outside right now, and i'm stuck inside waiting for a meeting to start... as soon as it's over, i'm heading right out into the blazing summer sun for a nice, long, hot afternoon run. i can't wait!

short post, blogging at work on a friday. wa-hoo! it's friday!

still waiting for kali's final OK on the pixie pics, then i'll let you all see 'em. plans for the weekend include mountain biking tomorrow (where? mt. tam? auburn? bolinas?) and a friend's bbq on sunday... maybe some surfing before the bbq, if it's nice and we're inspired.

gotta run - enjoy the heat!

channeling t.rex

cleaning out some pictures the other night, i ran across this one that i had forgotten about. it's at burning man last year, and dave & i had been listening to a ton of t.rex. i was inspired by all of the glam spacegirls in the concert movie, who pasted stars all over their faces. i love this picture because i think it really captures exactly how i was feeling at the moment: getting back to my bowie roots and childhood obsession with the man who fell to earth... that starry-eyed dreamy-wonder feeling that made me spacegirl! (actually, spaceboy made me spacegirl, but that's way too long of a story. maybe someday i'll post it. r.i.p. spaceboy, anyway - long live spacegirl! :-)

falls and fuel filters

yosemite was abso-friggin-lutely amazing and beautiful this past weekend. the weather was stunning, the park was outrageous - after eight years, it felt awesome to be there again. it's like getting a big hug from the earth. we hiked the mist trail on saturday, which would be more appropriately titled the "soaked trail," since we got completely drenched - it was really fun!

the burb broke down on our way out of the park on saturday, which put a twist in the weekend plans. fortunately, it broke down RIGHT at a turnout (a vista point, no less), where, if you can believe it, there were already two rangers hanging out with ANOTHER car that had broken down! it was pretty much the best possible way to break down, ever. the ranger drove our friends back hodgdon meadow, where we were camped, and dave & i got towed back to the yosemite garage with kevin the tow truck driver - a grey ponytailed rocker dude who thought the whole thing was a trip.

long story short, we replaced the fuel filter, and after much testing & waiting around in the most gorgeous waiting "room" ever (directly under yosemite falls, hee hee), kevin & jeri followed us home to make sure we didn't break down again, and we all made it back to sf in one piece. phew! always an adventure, isn't it?

kali & i did our photo shoot with pixie last tuesday - we should get the pictures back sometime this week. it was very challenging, but WOW! is pixie a great photographer. i can't wait to see what came out of the shoot. we were battling wind, icy coldness, tiny space, and balancing on unsteady planks of wood while surrounded by oil lamps and trying to perform and/or pose with fire - all while listening to her shouts of "chin down!" "chest up!" "sexy legs!" "twist to the side!" yow! tell me what to do, pixie! you are the rock star photographer - i am just your puppet!

speaking of rock stars... going back a couple of weekends - yeah, ministry rocked. they are so amazing live. best live show ever. i got pulled up on stage to dance with revco -that rocked! it was during "do ya think i'm sexy," and some guy in a penis costume running around on stage picked me up, tossed me over his "shoulder," and dropped me right on top of al! holy smokes, that's an industrial chick's dream come true :-) al thanked me later when we were hanging out - thanked me for being a "cockette," hahahaha. backstage was fun, with al & jello biafra, who was chatting with the guy from re/search, who have a new book out on the san francisco punk scene. we stayed 'till they had to take off for portland. oh, i finally got to meet raven, too. that was cool. he rocks.

well, on top of my fabulous life of fire and nature and music and art, i have a shitload of work to do - like, real work, my 9-5 job - and it does indeed make me tired sometimes, but i must return to that world for now and i shall post fun pictures and more fab-o stories when they happen! toodles.
