message from the astral plane

i had a dream the other night in which i received a message. i woke up thinking, wow, thanks! can i have another? hahaha. the message i got was:

If you focus on what is right and good, everything that is not will fall away.

pretty profound, huh? my subconscious is deep!

My Book Deal Ruined My Life - good grief

when I was in grad school, working on my MFA in Creative Writing, surrounded by writers, writers, and more writers, there were times when i looked around and could only shake my head in disbelief and repulsion. writers, i thought, are so fucking neurotic. and dramatic. and serious pains in the butt. after two pretty disastrous romances with fellow writers, i vowed never ever again to date a writer (so far, so good).

the writing life doesn't have to be that way! i thought. and then i set out, six years after i graduated (now), to write my own novel while living consciously, in a clear-headed, non-dramatic, un-neurotic way. so far, i've done all right. but i believe - yes, of course! - that it can be done.

i guess the neurotic and spazzy are just more fun to write about. this article that was printed in june in the New York Observer is a load of junk. "my book deal ruined my life" - waaaaah! boo fucking hoo. what a bunch of whiny little babies! get over it. i'm over it.

here's to writers who live full and happy lives! isn't that really more interesting??
